Pop-Up Magazine is a touring “live magazine” show, created for a stage, a screen, and a live audience. Contributors tell vivid, new, multimedia stories accompanied by illustration, animation, photography, and an original score performed onstage by our musical collaborators, Magik*Magik Orchestra.
This fall, Pop-Up Magazine is heading on its first themed tour — The Escape Issue — produced in collaboration with our sister publication, The California Sunday Magazine. We could all use a little escape. From politics. From the past. From hostile countries and climate change. From the Internet. From negativity. Maybe even from ourselves. Join us for an immersive night of storytelling devoted to escapes big and small, daring and mundane, physical and mental.
Contributors to Pop-Up Magazine's Escape Issue include comedians Jo Firestone (Shrill), Jordan Carlos (HBO’s Divorce; Black Mirror; WNYC’s Adulting) and Chris Duffy (Wyatt Cenac's Problem Areas); poet Sarah Kay (Project VOICE); writers Clio Chang (Jezebel, The New Republic) and Keri Blakinger (Houston Chronicle); musician Left at London; photographers Lucas Foglia (International Center of Photography, SF MOMA) and Lisette Poole (Time, The Atlantic, The New York Times). Check out the full list of contributors to the Escape Issue here. (https://www.popupmagazine.com)
We end the night gathered around the bar, performers and audience together. And nothing goes online after—you have to be there to see it.
Presented with Brightest Young Things
“A sensation” — The New York Times | “Beautiful” — Los Angeles Times | “Highbrow/Brilliant” — New York magazine | “Consistently one of the most inspiring, hilarious, and thought-provoking theatrical performances.“—Thrillist
